Firms generally have a limited number of apprenticeship places available per year so competition is going to be strong. As well as the practical experience gained through an apprenticeship you will also need to achieve a plumbing qualification. You may also be required to spend periods of time away from home. A plumber will need to be able to read and understand building and engineering drawings as well and wiring and circuit diagrams.
